Record capacity and comfort

Bergbahnen Sölden built a state-of-the-art feeder lift to the Giggijoch for the 2016/17 winter season. The new 10-passenger monocable gondola lift impresses with a record capacity of 4,500 passengers per hour and sets new standards not only in terms of transport capacity but also in terms of comfort.

Giggijoch valley station

The architecture is determined by the constricted nature of the existing building site and the cable car technology from Doppelmayr. The access level was therefore raised to 13 metres, enabling a building with the smallest possible footprint on the site.

The slender, tower-like, solid building core accommodates the cable car technology and is visible from afar as a landmark. The raised entrance level disappears behind a perforated band with a panoramic view of the Ötztal Alps.

Two escalators connect the covered plaza level with the station level, which is also directly connected to the ski slope and car park.

Giggijoch top station

The Giggijoch mountain station is characterised by its open and transparent design in the form of a foil-covered steel construction, which allows the dimensions of the station to disappear into the landscape.

The 134 cabins are stored in the weather protection structure above the station level. This type of garaging avoids additional cubage in the landscape.

A new tunnel connects the Giggijoch restaurant, 200 metres away, with the mountain station and ensures supply and disposal regardless of the weather.

Premiere in Sölden

The so-called ‘Level Walk In’ guarantees barrier-free access to lifts and pistes. Similar to an underground railway set, ten gondolas are lined up close together at the Giggijochbahn mountain station.

As with the Gaislachkogl, Innsbruck-based architects obermoser+partner are once again responsible for the design of the new Giggijochbahn.
