Architecture, enjoyment & alpine highlights

In 2013, the Gaislachkogl was given a new, modern design which, together with the Gaislachkoglbahn cable car, provides exciting accents. However, the ice Q not only scores points in terms of architecture and views, the so-called ‘Alpine Cuisine’, wine culture and over 200 indoor and outdoor seats are also part of the unique service portfolio.

The history

Back in 1966, when the Gaislachkogl was first made accessible by cable car, Sölden's tourism experts created the first restaurant at this location. 47 years later, the unique glass and steel construction that characterises the image today was built on the same site. In 2019, the Ice Q was awarded 2 toques by Gault Millau, making it the highest toque-awarded restaurant in Austria to date.

But it's not just the cuisine and the view that impress numerous guests day after day. Shortly after the restaurant was built, location scouts from James Bond's production company flew over Sölden and were impressed by the location and the building. After further visits to Sölden, it was finalised - in 2015, key and action scenes of the then new film SPECTRE will be shot in Sölden and ice Q will play a central role in it.

Technical approach

The building's glass façade opens up views of the surrounding mountains, while its shape is reminiscent of stacked blocks of ice. Together with the futuristic design of the mountain station, the Gaislachkogl has become one of the most impressive peaks in the whole of Tyrol.
